Online Safety and Privacy

Health scams to know

Calls offering "free" braces, tests or new Medicare cards; texts with fake delivery or benefit links; messages that create panic. Real agencies do not call out of the blue asking for an ID number.

Stop, check, call back

Stop before clicking or answering. Check the sender. Call back using the number on the card or the official website, not the number in the message.

Passwords and two-step login

Use a long passphrase, a different one for each important account, and turn on two-step verification for email and health portals. A password manager or the phone's built-in one helps.

Online Safety and Privacy continued

Privacy basics

HIPAA protects health information held by doctors, health plans and their partners. As a navigator, treat everything you see as private, follow your organization's privacy policy, and never store client logins.

Shared and public devices

Log out of portals on shared devices, never let a browser save a password on a library computer, and clear downloads that contain health records.

Coach Lucy Tip · Guide, don't drive. Keep the device in your client's hands and let them tap every step.

The "Medicaid renewal" text

Mrs. Ali shows you a text: "Your Medicaid will be cancelled today. Click here to verify your ID." She is scared and about to tap it.

Your navigation steps

  1. Ask her not to tap the link
  2. Look at the sender and the link address together
  3. Find the official AHCCCS or state Medicaid contact
  4. Help her check her real status by calling or logging in herself
  5. Report and delete the text

In the Qwest, the steps are shuffled. Put them in the best order to help the client and earn your LIVE It coins.
