Reliable Information and AI

Who, when, why

Who wrote it and what are their credentials? When was it written? Why was it written: to inform, or to sell? Reliable sources are clear on all three.

Trusted starting points

MedlinePlus, CDC, NIH, your state or county health department, and your own clinician. .gov and .edu sites are good starts but still check the date.

Red flags

Miracle cures, "doctors don't want you to know", products for sale on the same page, no author, no date, and claims that make you angry or afraid.

Reliable Information and AI continued

AI chatbots

AI can explain medical words, summarize information and help write questions for a visit. It can also be confidently wrong. Always confirm with a trusted source or the care team.

Keep it private

Do not type names, dates of birth, ID numbers or detailed health histories into public AI tools. Use general questions instead.

Coach Lucy Tip · Guide, don't drive. Keep the device in your client's hands and let them tap every step.

Live It · Scenario

The viral cure

Mr. Harris shares a video claiming a supplement cures diabetes so he can stop his insulin.

Your navigation steps

  1. Thank him for asking before acting
  2. Check who made the video and what they sell
  3. Look up the claim on MedlinePlus together
  4. Encourage him to ask his care team before changing medicine
  5. Show how to report or skip similar videos

In the Qwest, the steps are shuffled. Put them in the best order to help the client and earn your LIVE It coins.

Teach It Forward

The fastest way to master a skill is to teach it. Your Share It challenge:

  1. Fact-check one health post before you share it, and share the trusted version instead.
  2. Use teach-back: ask them to show you the step in their own words.
  3. Post what you learned (no client names) in your group or the Share It Studio to earn SHARE It coins.
