Things 1 and 2
Most care now starts online
Appointments, test results, refills and messages to your care team often live in a patient portal. If you can log in, you can see your own health record and act on it.
✅ Try this: Ask your clinic: "Do you have a patient portal, and how do I sign up?"A video visit can replace a trip
Telehealth lets you see a clinician by phone or video for many follow-ups, prescriptions and behavioral health visits. It saves travel, time off work and childcare.
✅ Try this: Before your next visit, ask if a video option is available. The 10 Things 3 and 4
Low-cost internet is real
Lifeline lowers phone or internet bills for eligible households, and many internet companies offer low-cost plans for families on SNAP, Medicaid or school lunch programs.
✅ Try this: Call 211 or visit your library and ask about low-cost internet in your area.Your phone can do more than you think
Larger text, captions, read-aloud and voice control are built into most phones. They make health apps and portals easier for everyone.
✅ Try this: Open Settings and search for "Accessibility".The 10 Things 5 and 6
Your health data is valuable
Scammers target health insurance numbers and Medicare or Medicaid IDs. Real agencies do not call you out of the blue asking for them.
✅ Try this: Hang up and call the number on your card if someone asks for your ID.Not everything online is true
Health advice spreads fast on social media. Check who wrote it, when, and whether a trusted source such as MedlinePlus or your clinician agrees.
✅ Try this: Before sharing a health tip, find it on one trusted site first. The 10 Things 7 and 8
AI chatbots can help and can be wrong
AI tools can explain words and help you prepare questions, but they make mistakes and are not your doctor. Keep personal details out of public chatbots.
✅ Try this: Use AI to write down questions, then ask your care team.Home devices send real data
Blood pressure cuffs, glucose meters and pulse oximeters can share readings with your care team. Accurate readings depend on using them the right way.
✅ Try this: Ask your clinic to show you how to use your device. The 10 Things 9 and 10
Help is a referral away
Food, housing, transportation and benefits applications can often be started online, and community programs can refer you directly to each other.
✅ Try this: Dial 211 to find local help.Digital Health Navigators connect it all
A navigator helps people get devices set up, get online, use portals and telehealth, and reach the services they need. It is a growing job and a first step into health careers.
