Do Module 5 (Online Safety and Privacy) early with older adults. Scam texts make many people afraid of their phones. Win back that trust first and every other module gets easier.

10 things to know about digital health.

Start here, or share it with your whole community. Here are three of the ten.

Most care now starts online

Appointments, test results, refills and messages to your care team often live in a patient portal. If you can log in, you can see your own health record and act on it.

Try this: Ask your clinic: "Do you have a patient portal, and how do I sign up?"

Your health data is valuable

Scammers target health insurance numbers and Medicare or Medicaid IDs. Real agencies do not call you out of the blue asking for them.

Try this: Hang up and call the number on your card if someone asks for your ID.

AI chatbots can help and can be wrong

AI tools can explain words and help you prepare questions, but they make mistakes and are not your doctor. Keep personal details out of public chatbots.

Try this: Use AI to write down questions, then ask your care team.
Badges & ranks

Every 4 to 8 hours, a new rank.

Badges show progress that employers and funders can see. Finish all 24 hours and pass the final exam to earn the Digital Health Navigator Pro certificate.

Welcome from Coach Lucy and Dr. Rob

Welcome. Appointments, test results, refills, benefits and even doctor visits now happen online. People without a connection, a working device or the confidence to use them get left behind.

A Digital Health Navigator closes that gap one person at a time. This course gives you the skills, the boundaries and a record of what you did, so the people who hire you or fund your program can see it too.

Take it one module at a time. Learn it, live it, then share it with one person. That is how a community gets connected.

Questions

Good to know

How many hours is it?

24 core hours in 12 two-hour modules, plus an 8-hour 21st Century work-readiness strand. The 180-hour internship or work-experience log is optional. Group leaders can run it on a 16- or 24-hour schedule.

What credential do learners earn?

Four badges along the way (Navigator Rookie, Navigator Guide, Navigator, Lead Navigator) and the Digital Health Navigator Pro certificate after all 12 modules and a final exam score of 80% or higher. It is an FFH course certificate, not a state license.

How do the internship hours work?

Learners log work-experience hours in the course, up to 180. A supervisor signs off on each entry, so the record is ready for a portfolio, an employer or a workforce program.

Is it available in Spanish?

Spanish is coming. Tell us if your program needs it and we will put you on the early list.

What devices do learners need?

Any phone, tablet or computer with a web browser and an internet connection. For group sessions, one practice phone or tablet per pair helps with the hands-on parts.

How is privacy handled?

Practice cases use made-up clients. The course teaches navigators never to keep a client's passwords or log in for them. Client outcomes roll up to the PHIT Score Card by ZIP code, so reports show counts, not names.

Can we run it with a group?

Yes. The Group Leader Guide has 16- and 24-hour schedules with an opener, an activity and discussion questions for every module, plus a cohort dashboard for tracking minutes, scores and outcomes.

How is this different from a digital literacy course?

Digital literacy teaches a person to use their own device. DHN Pro trains someone to help other people, with health care at the center: patient portals, telehealth, home health devices, reliable health information, benefits and referrals, and clear boundaries on what a navigator does and does not do.
