Digital Caregiving
Telehealth visits
Charge the device, test the camera, sound and internet, find a quiet, well-lit spot, and have the medicine list and questions ready. Help the client join, then step back or stay as they choose. Write down instructions the care team gives.
Home monitoring devices
Blood pressure cuffs, glucose meters, scales and pulse oximeters may send readings to the care team. Help the client use them the way they were trained. Report readings outside the care plan limits. Do not change a device setting without direction.
Pulse oximeters
A pulse oximeter clips on a finger and estimates oxygen. Cold hands, movement and nail polish can affect the number, and readings can be less accurate on darker skin. Always report symptoms like trouble breathing, even if the number looks fine.

Patient portals
Portals hold messages, results and appointments. A client can give a caregiver proxy access through the portal. Never use a client's own login or keep their password. Help them read and act on portal messages.
Medication reminders
Phone alarms, apps and smart pill dispensers can remind clients to take medicine. Reminders are not decisions. Follow your state's rules and your agency's care plan on what help you may give. Report missed doses and any medicine questions to the nurse.
