Evaluation and Research

Why evaluate

Evaluation shows what works, what to fix and why the program deserves funding. Good data protects your program and the people it serves.

Process and outcome

Process measures count what you did: visits made, people screened. Outcome measures show what changed: referrals closed, appointments kept, goals met.

Good data habits

Record data the same day, the same way, using the same definitions. Write minutes, not guesses. If you make a mistake, fix it the way your program says.

Research ethics

People must agree to take part (informed consent), can stop at any time and have their privacy protected. Research studies are reviewed by an ethics board called an IRB.

Community-based participatory research

In CBPR, community members are partners in every step: choosing the question, collecting data, making sense of results and sharing them. CHWs are natural bridges in this work.

Coach Lucy Tip · Connect, don't direct. The client leads, the care team makes the medical calls, and you build the bridge between them.

  2. Pick two or three simple measures
  3. Collect data the same way each time, with consent
  4. Look at the results with the group
  5. Share what you learned and what will change

In the Qwest, the steps are shuffled. Put them in the best order to help the client and earn your LIVE It coins.
