How a Session Works

Every session follows the same 45-minute rhythm, built on Learn It · Live It · Share It. Learners always know what comes next, and you always have a plan.

TimeStepWhat happens
5 minWarm-upA quick question or movement that hooks the topic (in every session plan).
6–8 minWatchPlay Dr. Rob’s Form & Function video for the system together.
10 minLearn ItRead the Form & Function page together; play the Cards or Match It game.
12 minLive ItThe group activity, then Order It for the system’s pathway.
5 minShare ItDiscuss two questions; each learner commits to one Share It action.
5 minCheckCheck-yourself questions or the Boss Quiz; award badges.

Three ways to run it

13-week clubOne system per week. Learners finish the Qwest stations at home between sessions. Best for classes and clubs.
7-session intensiveTwo systems per 75–90 min session. Good for cohorts and summer programs.
1-day workshopCells, heart, lungs, brain and prevention in a 4-hour block; assign the rest as the Qwest.

No devices? Run everything from the printed eBook and project one screen for the video and games.

Leading Well

Facilitation tips

  • Get them moving. Every session has a body-based activity — Dr. Rob insists on it.
  • Ask before you tell. Use the warm-up question to surface what learners already know.
  • Use the analogies. The car, the community, the camera and the chimney make hard ideas stick.
  • Celebrate often. Call out every badge, level-up and perfect score.
  • Teach back. The fastest way to learn is to teach — pair learners to explain a page to each other.

Safety and sensitivity

  • Not medical advice. If someone shares a symptom or worry, thank them and encourage them to talk with a provider. Never diagnose.
  • Personal stories are optional. Conditions like stroke, cancer, diabetes or HIV may touch learners’ families. Invite, never require.
  • Reproduction (Session 11). Follow your organization’s policy. For minors, get parent/guardian permission and offer an alternate activity.
  • Movement for every body. Offer seated or low-impact versions of every activity.
  • Allergies and asthma. Check before food, scent or breathing activities.
  • Emergencies. Know where the AED is, and teach BE FAST and hands-only CPR.
Dr. Rob’s reminder: “Beneath the melanin, we are all the same.” Build a room where every learner feels their body — and their questions — belong.

🛡️
eBook pp. 48–51🎬 Immune System: Form & Function · 5:10🏆 Qwest station 12
Objectives — learners will…

  2. Explain “how your body fights an infection” in the right order.
  3. Describe one common condition and one way to protect this system.

5:10Watch. Play Dr. Rob’s video. Ask: “What surprised you?”
10 minLearn It. Read p. 49 together. Play Cards or Match It on the big screen, taking turns.
12 minLive It. Immune defense tag: “germs” try to cross the room; “skin” blocks at the line; “white cells” tag germs who get through; “memory cells” remember who to tag fastest next round. Then play Order It: how your body fights an infection.
5 minShare It. Discuss two questions below. Each learner commits to: Help someone you love check their vaccine record and make a plan for any shots they’ve missed.
5 minCheck. Check-yourself questions on p. 51, or the Boss Quiz. Record badges on your roster.
Discussion questions
  • What is the difference between innate and adaptive immunity?
  • How do memory cells explain how vaccines work?
  • What does “friendly fire” mean in an autoimmune disease?
Leader tip · Health and vaccine conversations can be personal. Share facts, respect feelings and point to providers for medical decisions.

Answer key: check-yourself 1a, 2d, 3a, 4b · pathway: A germ gets past the skin → White blood cells find it → Its antigens are identified → B cells make matching antibodies → The invaders are destroyed → Memory cells remember it

Assessment & Progress

Pre-Check and Post-Check

Run the all-systems Pre-Check in session 1 and the Post-Check at the end. Each is 10 untimed questions. When learners are signed in, scores save to their course record so you can show growth.

Qwest badges and ranks

Each station has six steps: Watch, Cards, Match It, Order It, the Boss (70% to pass) and Live & Share. Beating the boss earns the badge. Learners level up as they collect badges:

Grand Rounds and certification

Twenty questions across all 13 systems. Learners who score 70% or better print the Force for Health Human Educator certificate, signed by Dr. Robert Gillio. Ask them to bring it — or show it on a phone — to your celebration.

Tip · Progress saves on each learner’s device and, when signed in, to their FFH account. Ask learners to sign in on shared devices so nothing is lost.

Celebrate

Celebrate & Share It Together

Dr. Rob

Dr. Rob · “Once you have completed a course like this, use your knowledge to talk to others. Consider stepping it up a level by forming a Team and doing an I.D.E.A.S. project to help others.”

Plan a certificate celebration

  • Invite families, partners and local health professionals.
  • Learners present one body system each — a teach-back moment.
  • Hand out certificates; post photos to your group feed.

The Share It team project

Teams pick one system and one health need in their community, then plan a small project to help. Keep it simple and real:

1 · NoticeWhat health need do we see? (e.g., few people know BE FAST)
2 · PlanWhat will we make or do? (poster, video, demo table, family night)
3 · ReachWho will we reach, where and when?
4 · ActDo it — and take photos.
5 · SharePost results to your FFH group and tell Dr. Rob and Coach Lucy.

Learners can share art, music, dance or songs about the body — Dr. Rob would love to use them to help others.
