These are the messy mornings — the double-books, the insurance snags, the upset patient at the desk. There are no wrong answers here. Every option works; you're building the judgment to reach for the Best one.
Before you start · Your scope

You work under the provider

As a Medical Assistant you're the provider's right hand — you room patients, take vitals, prep charts, handle insurance and flow, and keep the day moving. A few boundaries stay fixed:

  • You don't diagnose or prescribe — you gather information and flag concerns to the provider, who makes clinical decisions.
  • You support insurance and prior-auth tasks, but certified medical coders do full diagnostic/procedure coding.
  • When something is above your authority, you loop in the provider or a supervisor rather than guessing.
