For a weak patient with a poor swallow, position upright or on the side, use a suction toothbrush or moistened swabs with minimal fluid, and go gently to protect the airway.
When the shift gets busy, mouth care is the first thing dropped โ resist that. It is protective care on a schedule, each shift and more often for high-risk patients.
