From the desk of Coach Lucy – Another #LuvNSol Moment That Matters
It’s time for another #LuvNSol Moment...this time, welcoming in October. Even if I’m a little late getting this one down, I’m reminded once again that perfect imperfection is not just acceptable...it’s real, it’s honest, and it’s enough.
Just getting it done is what matters most.
When I think of October, it arrives with a rush of feelings and meaning.
It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and my heart inevitably turns to my mom. She passed away from this disease. And while I’ve only formally walked or run in her honor once, her memory is with me always. Just because I haven’t laced up my sneakers each year doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten. The grief never really fades; it just evolves into something you carry with you.
October is also when fall finally kisses Tucson. After our relentlessly hot summers, there’s a little chill in the morning air...just enough to pull out a favorite sweater or hoodie. And with that first breath of cooler air, I’m reminded why I love living here.
The rhythm of life feels different now.
And Halloween? Well, it’s one of my favorite celebrations of all. I take a little too much joy (okay, I admit it...competitive joy!) in creating a magical experience for the hundreds of kids and families who stop by our house. It’s never just about candy. It’s about creating smiles, memories, and moments that matter.
But let’s be real—October is also what I call the calm before the storm.
It’s the last full month before the holidays start their wild sprint to the finish line. If you’re a mom, or the glue in a family, you know exactly what I mean. Halloween costumes, Thanksgiving planning, December logistics, holiday budgeting... all of it seems to pile up right around now.
That’s why I see October as a kind of window.
A final chance to revisit our annual goals before the calendar compresses into a blur of school breaks, family plans, and work deadlines. November gets chopped in half by Thanksgiving. December pretty much disappears after the 18th or 19th. And then, poof—we’re in the New Year.
So yes, I’m feeling it.
A little anxious.
A little behind.
But also grateful.
Grateful for health, energy, and the ability to even be thinking about how to finish strong.
Did you know October is Health Literacy Month? That feels right.
Before we head into all the high-calorie gatherings and holiday indulgences, it’s the perfect time to recommit to healthy habits. Just one small decision a day can change the trajectory of our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
But October isn’t just about breast cancer or health literacy. It’s a profound reminder of how many stories are being lived and lifted this month:
It’s a month loaded with reminders to be present, to be kind, to be aware.
So here’s my reflection for this perfectly imperfect October:
✨ Take it day by day.
✨ Know your goals, and make small moves toward them.
✨ Don’t get so busy that you forget to look up.
✨ Breathe in the breeze.
✨ Smile at the changing leaves.
✨ Watch a child discover their first pumpkin.
✨ Hold space for both the grief and the joy.
Because this month isn’t just a bridge to the end of the year—it’s a sacred moment in its own right. A time to reset. To reflect. And to return to the things—and people—that matter most.
With love and soul,
Coach Lucy
