Wow...August already?
Welcome back to another LuvNSol Moment That Matters. I’m Coach Lucy, and August always lands with a special kind of energy. It’s a powerful convergence of love, remembrance, purpose, and momentum. The month holds a unique rhythm for me, not just because of what’s happening in the world, but because of the deeply personal milestones it holds in my heart.
It begins with August 3, the birthday of my daughter, Haley. This year, she turns 30, a milestone that makes me pause and reflect on the woman she’s become, the challenges she’s faced, and the light she brings to those around her.
Then comes August 17, the anniversary of my parents’ wedding. They shared 36 beautiful years together before my mother passed away in 2001. That date, to this day, holds space in my heart... a marker of commitment, partnership, and family.
Next is August 22, my son Kobe’s birthday. Over the past 100 days, I’ve watched him fully step into adulthood. He moved out of our home, bought his first car, and is thriving in the world of sales. Watching his confidence and independence grow has brought such joy. He is navigating his world with integrity and drive, and I couldn't be more proud.
August 26 marks Women’s Equality Day, commemorating the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920. But what many forget is how long that journey truly was. Although the first Women's Rights Convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York, on July 19–20, 1848, it took another 72 years for women to gain the national right to vote. And even at our nation’s founding, when Abigail Adams urged her husband to “remember the ladies,” her plea went unheeded. Only white men were granted voting rights. For 144 years, America operated as a democracy with only partial representation — until women were finally seen as citizens with full participatory rights. We must know and remember our history...always.
This is why voice matters — and why we must continue to honor and protect the right to be heard, especially in times like these. This is also why I’m proud to announce the relaunch of the My Girl Power Club — an empowerment STEAM Club powered by The Force for Health Network, aimed at inspiring and mentoring middle school, high school, and collegiate girls. With pillars like Know Your Voice, Own Your Health, Flex Your Wings, and Leave Your Mark, this club is about cultivating the leaders of tomorrow. We’re even planning sponsored field trips — including a visit to our state’s Capitol for middle schoolers and a national trip to New York and D.C. to honor the women who’ve paved the way.
Finally, August 31 is my mother’s birthday and this year marks the 23rd time I’ve had to celebrate that day without her here physically on Earth. It never gets easier, but it deepens my gratitude for the memories, her impact, and the spirit she left behind. Every photo I take, every story I capture, every sunset I stop to admire...they’re part of the living legacy I build in her honor.
As much of the country ramps up for back-to-school season, especially here in Arizona where many students head back in early August, I see this as another “new year” opportunity. It’s a natural chance to restart, regroup, and recommit...personally, professionally, and purposefully. It’s also the official launch of our first full season of the Reality Health Games at the Force for Health Network, where individuals and organizations compete to improve health habits and civic action through a fun, gamified approach.
And while August is still summer, here in the desert we begin to witness the subtle break of the heat with the arrival of monsoon season. It’s nature’s exhale. A moment of relief and reset. While the rest of the world may already be racing toward Halloween decorations and Christmas displays, I invite you to pause. Breathe. Be present. Tomorrow is never guaranteed — so reach out and love someone, love something, and love yourself while we can.
August isn’t just the eighth month of the year — it’s a reminder to live intentionally, speak boldly, and act with heart. Whether you're chasing goals, starting fresh, or simply holding space for what matters most — let this month be your moment to show up.
Thanks for investing your time and energy with me here. Let's have a great August!
With love and soul,
Coach Lucy
