Learning Objectives

  • Explain what citizenship requires in a republic.
  • Describe how the Constitution divides and checks power.
  • Apply the idea that citizens must actively keep the republic.
  • Connect the course's principles to a concrete civic action.
🎣 Hook (3 min)
"If a republic were a garden, who tends it — and what happens if no one does?" Reveal that every category connects to the citizen's job.
📖 Vocabulary (7 min)
Preview the 6 categories. One quick "why it matters" fact each. Emphasize the 2× Citizen Bonus — all content is health knowledge.
🎮 Gameplay (20 min)
Solo: 30 questions, 20s each — aim for 24+ correct ("ON FIRE"). Team: 2–4 teams buzz in; correct = full points + 2× bonus, wrong = lose half. The team that answers correctly picks next.
💬 Debrief (10 min)
Which principle surprised you? What is one thing you will do this month to help keep the republic? Why does the course call government a "necessary evil"?
🔗 Extensions (5 min)
Writing: a 1-page "Citizen's Brief" on your weakest category. Civic action: attend a local meeting or register to vote. Research: a historic marker in your community (Explore Out & About).

▶ Facilitation Tips

🏫 Setup

Project on a screen or smartboard. For Team Battle, assign each team a corner; teams buzz with keys 1–4 or the on-screen buttons. In setup you can name each team, pick a team logo, and optionally list players.

⏱ Timing

Solo ~15 min; Team ~25–30 min with buzz-ins and discussion. Budget 5–10 min for debrief.

🎯 Differentiation

100–200 questions are recall (accessible); 300–500 require deeper thinking. Mix team skill levels.
