Everything you need to frame the August announcements — the new Sunday home, the Junior Advisory Board, the Where As, Jazz Is challenge, and the 2027 Scholarship — plus a reusable monthly content system and the annual sponsorship package. Copy is ready to lift for the newsletter, blog, and social.
Every announcement laddering up to the same four things the Society exists to do. Lead with these — they turn a venue change into a mission moment.
Recruit & pay the players who make it live.
Recruit & celebrate the partner rooms that host us.
Scholarships, in-schools, and the next generation.
A solid regional schedule that sustains it all.
The Tucson Jazz Society is proud to announce a brand-new Sunday jazz series at Tesori Latin Kitchen and Cantina — eight weeks of live jazz, every Sunday from 2–4 PM, beginning August 23. New room, same mission: great players, a warm crowd, and music that brings our community together.
With deep gratitude to Brother John's — and to our own John Aldecoa. For years, Brother John's Beer, Bourbon & BBQ, owned by Tucson Jazz Society board member John Aldecoa, was our Sunday home and the heartbeat of this community. As Brother John's closes its doors, we honor John's extraordinary generosity and the countless Sunday afternoons of jazz he made possible. That spirit doesn't end — it moves with us to Tesori, and John moves with us too, still on our board and still in the music.
Opening lineup: Sol Child (Aug 23) · JazzMantics (Aug 30) · Zona Libre (Sept 6) · New Devotion (Sept 13) — more to come across the 8-week run.
Come write the next chapter with us. Sundays, 2–4 PM at Tesori Latin Kitchen & Cantina, starting August 23. Free and open — bring a friend.
We're opening a Junior Advisory Board for high-school students who want to lead. If you're a student who loves music, community, or simply wants to sharpen real leadership and community-service skills, this is your seat at the table. Junior Advisors help shape our programs, support our events, and learn — hands-on — how a community nonprofit actually runs.
What you'll build: leadership, event & project experience, community-service hours, a network of mentors, and a genuine role in supporting music in our region.
High-school leaders (and the adults who spot them): reach out to get involved. Applications open this fall.
Jazz is history, science, and the human story — and now it's a game. As part of the Force for Health Reality Health Games, we're launching the Where As, Jazz Is badge and challenge: a Learn It · Live It · Share It journey through jazz history, context, and culture.
Featuring the Listening Lab Challenge — listen to and score the Journey Through Genres for Where As, Jazz Is, plus featured songs along the way. Earn the badge, climb the board, and learn the story behind the music. Perfect for students, families, and lifelong learners.
Free to play, launching this season. Watch for the link in our newsletter.
We're building toward something lasting. The Tucson Jazz Society is proud to announce our 2027 Scholarship Program — scholarships to be gifted in Spring 2027 in support of young musicians and music education in our region. Details, criteria, and how to give are coming soon. Stay tuned.
Stay in the loop all season. Starting August 1 and running through the year, the Tucson Jazz Society newsletter brings you the Sunday lineup, musician and venue spotlights, our President's reflections, youth and scholarship news, and ways to get involved. Subject line: A new season, a new Sunday home 🎷
A note to open — This month we turn a page. We say a grateful goodbye to Brother John's and our own John Aldecoa's beloved room, and we open a bright new chapter at Tesori Latin Kitchen & Cantina. The music continues, the community grows, and the season ahead is our biggest yet.
From the President — [Carl's 4–5 sentence reflection: gratitude to John & Brother John's, excitement for Tesori and the season, an invitation to show up.]

One newsletter + two-to-three blogs, on a repeatable skeleton. Fill the blanks, keep the rhythm, and the year writes itself. (Newsletter cycle: August 1 → July 31.)
| Section | What goes here |
|---|---|
| 1. From the President | Carl's short reflection (ties to the Executive Voice blog) |

| 4. Venue Spotlight | Thank a partner room; recruit the next one |
| 5. Youth & Education | Jr. Advisory Board, Where As Jazz Is, scholarship news |
| 6. Get Involved | Membership · sponsorship · volunteer · donate CTA |
| 7. Save the Dates | Upcoming events, quarterly tentpole preview |
| Post | Voice / owner | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Executive Voice | Carl Bedford, President | Monthly reflections — where we are, what's ahead, a thank-you and an invitation. (From Carl's "sloppy copy" bullets.) |
| 2 · Health & Community | Coach Lucy / guest | The role of jazz in health, wellbeing & community — with useful links and resources. Ties music to mission. |
| 3 · Spotlight Story (optional) | Rotating | A musician, a volunteer, a Junior Advisor, a venue, or a scholarship story of the month. |
Rhythm tip: the Executive Voice + Spotlight feed the newsletter's sections 1 and 3, so writing once serves twice.
A second weekly night, spread across the region so every corner of Southern Arizona has jazz nearby. Recruit four partner venues — one for each corner — to host a recurring Tuesday.
Note: this flips the Sunday model (where the venue pays the band and TJS adds gift cards) — spell out which model applies when you pitch a room.
One package that funds the whole year: Weekly Sundays, possible Weekly Tuesdays, and one main tentpole event per quarter. Give sponsors a full-season presence, not a one-off logo.
| Quarter | Tentpole event | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Fall | Green Valley Event — September | Opens the season in the south corner |
| Winter | Open — Feb/Mar (to be set) | Avoid January — that's the Tucson Jazz Festival's window (a separate organization) |
| Spring | International Jazz Day — April 30 signature | Expanded into a LARGER main event including youth & students. Tucson is AZ's IJD representative. |
| Summer | Juneteenth Partnership — June | Co-created with a community partner |
Illustrative structure — set the dollar amounts with the board. The point is a season-long relationship.
| Tier | Presence | Great for |
|---|---|---|
| Season Presenting | Name on the whole season — every Sunday, Tuesday & all 4 tentpoles; top billing in newsletter & site; a moment at each quarterly event | A lead corporate partner (e.g. a WCF-style sponsor) |
| Quarterly / Event | Presenting sponsor of one tentpole event + that quarter's weekly series | Regional businesses tied to one area/season |
| Weekly Series | Sponsor a night — "Sundays at Tesori, presented by ___" or a Tuesday corner | A neighborhood business near a venue |
| Musician / Scholarship Fund | Underwrite the players or the 2027 Scholarship directly (restricted gift) | Donors who want their gift to reach artists & students |
What every sponsor funds: the musicians who play, the venues we partner with, music education for youth, and a dependable year-round lineup for the region — the four promises, made real. That's the story that closes a sponsor.
