Pima County/Tucson Women’s Commission Marks 50 Years — and Calls Its Former Commissioners Home
Half a century of advocacy for women and girls will be celebrated on Women’s Equality Day, August 26, 2026 — and every woman who ever served is invited to help write the story.
TUCSON, Ariz. — [DATE] — The Pima County/Tucson Women’s Commission (PCTWC), established in 1975 to expose, eliminate, and prevent discrimination against women and to advance full equality of opportunity across Southern Arizona, will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 — Women’s Equality Day — at the YWCA of Southern Arizona, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Over five decades, the Commission has advised the Mayor and Tucson City Council and the Pima County Board of Supervisors on the issues that shape women’s lives — safety and domestic-violence services, economic equity and pay, health and wellness, childcare and housing, girls’ leadership and education, and women’s civic representation. Its work has helped make Arizona one of the strongest states in the nation for women in elected office, where women now hold nearly half of all legislative seats.
As part of the anniversary, the Commission is launching the PCTWC 50th Anniversary Legacy Book — a living collection of the women who have served on the Commission since 1975. Every former commissioner is invited to contribute her own page: her years and role, a photograph, and the story of what she worked on and what it meant. Completed pages will be published online and featured during the celebration.

The City of Tucson and Pima County are jointly inviting all former commissioners to reconnect with the Commission, attend the August 26 celebration, and add their chapter to the Legacy Book.
