Marstronaut™ Deploy:
Gap Analysis Before We Launch

Dr. Rob shipped a refreshed Marstronaut build on June 12. Before we push it live, here's exactly what changed, what an overwrite would quietly cost us, and the safe path to launch — so nothing gets lost.

Bottom Line

The trap, in one paragraph

⚠️ Don't overwrite — merge

Dr. Rob's new version is a genuine content upgrade (NASA hero images on 37 pages, fixed and added videos) — but it was built before the FFH polish layer was added to the live site. Dropping it in as-is would strip the Clipboard support widget, the branded sign-in nav, and brand-asset logos from the hub, and would delete 3 strategic pages that exist only on the live site.

Recommendation: keep the polished live version as the base and port Dr. Rob's improvements into it (Option B). The Vimeo blocker is already resolved.

The Handoff

What Dr. Rob delivered (June 12)

A refreshed build of the full program — 50 HTML pages (~6 MB), fronted by a Program Showcase hub. This session's changes:

🖼️

Hero images on 37 pages

Full-width NASA public-domain banners, matched to each topic, with credit. Commercial-safe.

🔧

4 dead YouTube videos fixed

Replaced with verified-live official NASA/NSF footage — Apollo 11, Artemis I, Gemini, an Antarctic analog.

🎬

Cleaner video players

rel=0 & modestbranding, YouTube-nocookie, reduced suggested-video clutter.

🎥

3 new Vimeo embeds

Ad-free, on Recruitment-Public, Career-Ambassador, and Mission-3.

📝

New companion files

98 Coach Intro narrator scripts (for animation) + the Vimeo Privacy Checklist.

Blocker Cleared

Vimeo embed-privacy — resolved

✓ 38 / 38 DONE

Dr. Rob flagged 38 Vimeo videos that needed their "Where can this be embedded?" setting opened, or the players would error on the live site. No manual clicking required — a script run against the Vimeo API set all 38 to embed Anywhere in one pass (38 updated, 0 failed). Housekeeping: regenerate the Vimeo API token & client secret, since they passed through chat.

Side by Side

The two versions are not interchangeable

A page-by-page comparison of every file. Toggle to see what each version carries — then read the full effect matrix below.

Read this way: Dr. Rob's folder wins on content and loses on chrome, compliance, and completeness — the signature of a refresh made before the polish work landed.

Content Loss

3 pages that exist only on the live site

None of these exist in Dr. Rob's folder. A wholesale folder replace deletes them outright.

If We Overwrite

What a straight overwrite would cost

Compliance break. The hub loses the Clipboard widget and branded sign-in nav — both required by FFH's public-page standard. The front door stops routing visitors to support and sign-up.
Brand break. The hub and ~14 interior pages lose their canonical brand-asset logos.
Content loss. The Executive Summary, Cross-Disciplinary Positioning, and Standards Map pages disappear from the live site.
Reversible, but messy. The pipeline preserves prior versions, so it could be rolled back — but a public site briefly serving a downgraded hub is avoidable entirely.
The Decision

Three ways forward

Click a card for detail. Option B is recommended.

A · Side-by-side preview

Zero risk · good interim
Tap for detail ▾
Deploy Dr. Rob's version to a separate URL (e.g. /marstronaut-preview/). Nothing live is touched. You and Dr. Rob compare the real pages, then proceed to the merge. Great for letting Dr. Rob see his hero images live — but not the final launch.
RECOMMENDED

B · Merge

Best of both · nothing lost
Tap for detail ▾
Keep the polished live version as the base. Port in Dr. Rob's improvements — the 37 hero images and the new/fixed video embeds — while preserving the Clipboard, branded nav, brand-asset logos, and the 3 strategic pages. This becomes the real /marstronaut/.

C · Overwrite now

Fast · but lossy
Tap for detail ▾
Replace /marstronaut/ with Dr. Rob's raw folder immediately. Fastest, but incurs every loss listed under "Cost of Overwrite." Not recommended.
Next Steps

Recommended action plan

Vimeo — done. All 38 videos embed-enabled. Regenerate the token/secret.
Approve the merge (Option B). Take the live version as the base and inject Dr. Rob's hero images and new video embeds across the 37 pages — Clipboard, nav, logos, and 3 strategic pages stay intact.
Optional interim. If Dr. Rob wants to eyeball his images live first, ship Option A (preview URL) in parallel — costs nothing, touches nothing live.
Verify, then deploy. Package the merged folder with the standard FFH deploy script, confirm in GitHub Desktop, push — Vercel auto-deploys in ~60 seconds.
Log the deploy. Update all three FFH surfaces — Airtable ledger, Tech Command Center, Showcase.
Landing-page note: the live /marstronaut/ hub already serves as the branded front door with nav + Clipboard, and your original basic page was preserved at /marstronaut-basic-games/, so nothing from the early work was lost. Whether the hub fully meets the "dedicated marketing landing page" standard (audience CTAs, sample experience, reward pop-ups, assigned coach) is a separate review worth doing once the merge is live.
